minimum-text-size

Texts are large enough to be distinct and legible by all users

Who might be affected
Low Vision

Description

Although accessibility regulations and guidelines do not explicitly define a minimum text size requirement, to preserve the readability and prominence of the texts, they should be no smaller than 16 points (pt) (approximately 16 pixels). This principle is especially important for texts with legal or financial significance (such as terms of use).

Comment: The values we refer to here are in points but they also fit scalable fonts (sp)

How Users Are Affected

In most cases, fixing this type of issue will require working with the designer to provide a new text size that works with the overall layout and styles. However, if there is no dependence on the design team, the text size should be changed to at least 12 points. This requirement mainly refers to the body text. Still, it is also relevant to elements like links, lists, tables, and any other element that may contain texts essential to understanding the content and purpose of the screen.
